History of DC Noir
The credit for the founding of DC Noir goes to the original admins who went by the names Trickster, Piper, Nightwing, and Catwoman. This site was originally a DC comics Role Play founded in 2009 and taking place just after the Infinite Crisis then skewing off into its own timeline. The original staff is responsible for the initial creation of the site and the previous rules, codes, and templates as well as the concept and original codes for the Coliseum. They are also who created all of the pixel items available for purchase in the shop(except for Alice and Excalibur which were created by a member that has since left the forum and we don't know the name of anymore to give credit).
In around 2010 the admins opened a new forum and their interest in Noir waned as their priorities shifted. Eventually they passed the site onto long time member who went by the name Black Canary who later changed her main to Robin, making her an admin and promoting Zatanna and Booster Gold to moderators. Zatanna was made a second admin shortly thereafter and Booster Gold disappeared from the site.
Eventually the original admins left the site entirely and dropped all of their characters. Robin and Zatanna became the primary admins and the site soldiered on. Most of the rules were redone to suit the new management. Over the course of time Spoiler and then Static were also made moderators. Catwoman returned very briefly as an admin as the character Lady Blaze but left again after a few weeks.
In 2011 DC did a major reboot and rehaul to their comic world now called Earth Prime/the DCnU also known as the New 52. This was ultimately the downfall of Noir. Robin and Zatanna eventually became so disillusioned with DC Comics that it was impossible to run the site with any sort of enthusiasm. After some long debate and consideration, Zatanna and Robin stepped down as admins and passed the site onto Static and Spoiler who became the head admins.
Static and Spoiler opted to update the site to a later timeline since the Infinite Crisis had taken place so long ago. Doing an in-game reboot they moved the game timeline forward to take place after the Blackest Night/Brightest Day story arc. As part of the in game relaunch, Static decided to delete the entire library of RP threads accumulated since the start of the game from the forum's archives so unfortunately all threads, logged apps, and site history has been lost and is unable to be recovered.
Shortly after the site's reopening in the new timeline, Static decided he didn't want to run the site anymore. As opposed to passing the site onto another member, Zatanna opted to retake control of the site and closed the forum with intent to remodel and reopen someday. While the site was closed and on indefinite hiatus, Proboards shifted from V4 to V5 and most of the coding and site formatting was lost.
In the summer of 2015 Zatanna finally was able to complete the revamping of the site. Ever since the closing there was intent to reopen the site as an animated DC forum set in the Justice League/Justice League Unlimited universe. All the plug-ins were chosen and implemented by Zatanna. All the side box info, rules, and staff threads were edited and/or rewritten by Zatanna. Site graphics were created by Zatanna. The new application and template was created by Zatanna. Some of the text, like the content descriptions of each forum RP location and pieces of the member agreement in the app, is from the original site's creation. Mini profile code was heavily edited from here. Basically while there is still some flavor and documentation leftover from the original site, most of the current content was created or heavily edited by Zatanna.
The site however, did not reopen. Zatanna took an unscheduled, though long overdue, hiatus from RPing in general around 2016 and Noir remained on hiatus as a result.
It was April of 2021 watching Falcon and The Winter Soldier that sparked Zatanna to seek out some of her old RP sites and tentatively wade back in. In addition, she returned to the Noir revamp. During the hiatus, Photobucket stopped being a reliable photo hosting site and every image had to be painstakingly re-uploaded and re-linked. All of the documentation had to be revisited and some of the boards rearranged. Zatanna has now changed her main admin account to Talia and has promoted a former member who will go by Nightwing to co-admin. Nightwing was kind enough to design a new ad for the site and has helped with a lot of behind the scenes decisions and discussion.
The site’s soft reopening was June 2021 with an official reopen date as of July 1st, 2021. DC Noir is now a DCAU board ready for a fresh start.
