Powers, Abilities, Skills, Strengths |
Enhanced physical attributes - Thanks to a military experiment designed to create Metahuman soldiers Slade has enhanced strength, agility, endurance, reflexes and senses. Enhanced brainpower - Commonly mistaken for the 'using 100% of his brain' myth, the experiments have also upgraded Slade's mental faculties, he can process large amounts of information quickly, make snap observations based on his surroundings with his senses and focus his brainpower to his other bodily functions like concentrating his healing factor on a particular wound or faking his death by slowing his breathing and heart rate. Healing Factor - Though he cannot regrow destroyed body parts (such as his eye) Slade can heal much quicker than a baseline human given enough time. Combat mastery - Passing with flying colours in the infamous 'Camp Washout' granted Deathstroke the highest level of training in melee and ranged fighting. He is trained in many types of equipment and can switch between them almost seemlessly. His preferred loadout tends to be his custom large calibre handgun, one double edged sword or two single edged swords and a telescoping staff that can change between a full quaterstaff length or compact to a short stave similar to those used by Nightwing. Reputation - His military and mercenary history make him a man not to be trifled with and sometimes even showing up to look threatening is enough to complete his mission (though he'll still charge heavily to prevent it becoming a habit and letting his skills decline) Underworld contacts - Slade has various people he can meet for information, weapons and equipment, transport, cover identities or jobs. |
Weaknesses, Fatal Flaws |
Missing eye - Slade has had his right eye shot out previously, unable to regenerate it with his healing factor. He trains to keep aware of his surroundings but it is still an exploitable blindspot. Not like that other guy - His healing factor is not as extreme as other comic characters. His body parts do not regrow and he will need to treat some wounds to prevent them healing badly. For example if shot he will have to remove any bullets from himself. Bad Blood - Slade has burned a few bridges in his time, particularly with his ex-wife Adeline Kane, his eldest son Grant, his estranged daughter Rose and the terrorist organisation HIVE. Any one of them could choose the opposing side from his current client just to challenge him. |
Character History |
To get away from a broken home and abusive father Slade lied about his age to enlist in the US Army. After training he was deployed with a multinational operation working in South East Asia under the command of Bill Wintergreen of the SAS. Under the mentorship of Wintergreen, Slade served with distinction in several combat zones across the continent achieving the rank of Major and gaining the notice of his superiors. Eventually he was shortlisted with a group of other specialists for transfer to Camp Washington. This training facility for elite forces was commonly known as Camp Washout because of the high failure rate. Slade excelled in his training, outdoing all other subjects thanks to his ruthlessness. Eventually he began a romantic affair with Captain Adeline Kane, an intelligance officer who was developing a combat regime based on studying the Vietnam War and how to counter ambush tactics. This combat style allowed a soldier to take out an enemy on their own territory by monitoring all advantageous locations in an area and attacking them with a mix of close range and long range attacks. This would form the bulk of Slade's fighting style. After his testing Slade was used to test a new drug intended to create soldiers with enhanced physical and mental abilities. The drug seemingly failed, causing a violent reaction and hospitalising Wilson for a time causing the project to be scrapped and the drug samples destroyed. In truth the empowering process was more long term and Slade developed the abilities his superiors were hoping for, choosing to keep them to himself to avoid becoming a lab rat for life. He accepted an honourable discharge and joined Kane and Wintergreen in their business venture, a PMC called Searchers Inc. Eventually Kane and Wilson married and had two sons, Grant and Joseph. Secretly Slade commissioned a set of custom armour and weapons, using the international business offered by Searchers to build his own reputation as the mercenary Deathstroke the Terminator. A rival mercenary named Jackal uncovered Slade's identity however and allied with the terrorist group HIVE to kidnap the youngest Wilson child Joseph. HIVE wanted Slade to provide exclusive and free use of Deathstroke's talents while Jackal merely wanted to remove his rival (Jackal was secretly Bill Walsh, the runner up in Slade's training group at Camp Washout and believed he was cheated of everything Slade had in life including the love of Adeline and). Deathstroke refused to negotiate or hold back however and cut through Jackal and the HIVE agents, though a misfired bullet from one of his enemies hit Joseph in the throat and cost the young boy his voice. An enraged Adeline cut ties with Slade soon after, disolving their marriage and shooting him in the eye, incensed that he had seemingly put his reputation and ego above their son. Wilson buried himself in his work as Deathstroke, Wintergreen keeping in touch to try and keep some humanity alive in his protege. Time will tell how things work out. |

Slade waited at the dock as the small speedboat pulled up to the dock. The three men that stepped out tried to maintain a look of elitism despite the shoddiness of their clothing. One stepped forwards and offered a hand. "Warren Lawford, of the Gotham Lawfords. You might have heard of me. These are Lydecker and Hardwick." Slade kept his arms folded. If he hadn't put in the research before this meeting he wouldn't have any reason to know the name, but these three were a bunch of thrillseeking brats from old money families formerly known as the Terrible Trio. They were recently paroled but on hard times. "First, this meeting is only to hear your pitch. I don't like the job and I leave, this meeting never happened. Gotham has double rates, just like Metropolis and Central City. In any case half the money is up front and nothing happens until my bank confirms it." "Well...yeah it's Gotham. Money won't be an issue once the job is complete but for now you can rest assured a Lawford always pays well. Especially when I'm back in charge of my family holdings. Which is where you come in Mr the Terminator." So he was currently broke. Wilson knew better than to take a gentlemans agreement in lieu of proper payment, especially when there was so many open ends to the job. He turned to walk away only to feel a thick yet pampered hand grab at his shoulder. "Don't you dare walk away from us. You forget who I am?" Slade gripped the offending wrist and twisted back, forcing the fingers to release and making Lawford squawk in shock. Lydecker and Hardwick advanced only for Slade to deliver a pair of furious snap kicks with his left leg, knocking the two into piles of trash littering the dock. Another twist of the wrist forced Lawford down further onto the dock making him whimper further whilst trying to spit out demands. One more wrench gave him the hint that it was time to listen. "Clearly you forgot who I am. Fox? Shark? Vulture? I'm always the biggest predator. I have the sharpest teeth, the biggest claws and the most stripes. Now get back on your little boat and go home. I'm a man of my word so I won't tell your parole officers what you just tried to pull. But if you try this again I'll come back and have you all stuffed and mounted. Nod once if you understand." Lawford whimpered, catching his tongue before it got him in more trouble, but his two cohorts merely groaned in what could be considered acceptance. "Good. Now I'm leaving. Don't bother getting up until I'm long gone." |
Anything Else |
Deathstroke fathered a daughter he doesn't yet know about during an early mission in Cambodia Deathstroke hasn't had any DCAU exposure in the main animated continuity, only a recent appearance in the current continuation of BTAS in comic form. |
Credits |
Deathstroke the Terminator volumes 1 and 4 by Marv Wolfman for the character history through flashbacks. I've tried to remain vague enough for the possibility of anyone picking up Rose, Ravager or other related characters so that they aren't stuck with a characterisation they don't want. |
