The moonlight cast strange elongated shadows across the horrible corporate patterned carpet she found herself slipping silently over. “Would it have killed them to update this since the last time I was here?” She mused to herself. It had been years since Selina had donned the mask of Catwoman, heck she had even gotten a new suit before they got a new carpet. Not exactly the glamorous return to Gotham City she had imagined, but the information secretly stored here was priceless.
The hardest part had been slipping past the lone guard on patrol, he would be making his way through the lower levels of the building at the moment, if she moved quickly no one would ever be the wiser. She turned down a darkened hallway, her prize was just beyond the door at the end. She reached into the small black pouch she had brought with her to reveal a travel-sized can of hair spray. “You know what they say, it’s always important to look your best.” She smiled at her own joke as she sprayed into the hallway revealing thin red lines of light. “Well, looks like there’s more to you than beige carpeting and tacky tiles”
She studied the hallway while she tightened the straps of her pouch. Suddenly, Catwoman launched herself into a series of gymnastic flips that somehow managed to avoid each of the glowing red lines with surprising accuracy. Compared to the hallway, the lock on the door was a joke, it seemed like their laser budget hadn’t extended to covering the actual door. Her cat-like shadow sprawled out on the floor before her as the door swung slowly open to reveal a rather large and comfortable-looking office, or at least what she could see of it in the dark.
She visually scanned the room, there was a filing cabinet with a key next to a bookshelf that rested behind an oversized desk. “The obvious place to start...which means…” Selina spoke out loud to herself and continued to inspect the room. Her eyes fell upon two picture frames, hanging on the wall. She carefully inspected the backside of the first frame, nothing out of the ordinary, she frowned in disappointment. However, after inspecting the second frame that familiar smile flashed across her face once again. “Bingo!”
She placed the side of her head against the concealed safe while her clawed gloves slowly turned the dial. She could feel her heart racing, she was so close to getting what she came for, but she had also taken longer than she had anticipated locating the safe. The soft ‘click’ sound informed her of her success as the door gave way revealing the documentation she had come for. Catwoman pulled a small handheld camera from her bag and began taking pictures of the contents of the safe. She was overjoyed as her eyes scanned the wording on the documents. This is exactly what she needed.
